The best of 'Paraathe' in Delhi

1.NOT JUST PARANTHAS

Location : M 84, M Block Market, Greater Kailash II, New Delhi

Diners will be spoilt for choice at Not Just Parathas, which offers over 100 types of its signature flatbread. No forks or knives in this traditionalist establishment – just the rustic enjoyment of eating with the fingers of your right hand. True to its name, the store also offers a decent selection of kebabs, tikkas and curries. Service is quick and efficient, although you might have to wait for up to half an hour if you don’t make a reservation. With the innovative chef constantly coming up with new and creative paratha combinations, this is a restaurant that will surprise you each time you return.

2.MOOLCHAND PARANTHEWALA

Location : Moolchand Paranthewala | Besides Vikram Hotel, Ring Road, New Delhi-24

This is a favourite midnight haunt when looking to indulge in some street food in the wee hours of the morning. The most popular of the lot is the Anda Parantha & they also offer Raita as an accompaniment & some pickles for garnishing.

3.PUNDIT GAYA PRASAD SHIV CHARAN PARATHE WALA

Location : Shop No. 34, Gali Parathe Wali, Chandni Chowk, New Delhi-06

This is a very famous Parantha shop in the famous Parantha Wali Gali. This shop started in 1872 & ever since they have been serving delicious Paranthas. Late PMs, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru & Indira Gandhi, Akshay Kumar and many other famous people have all tasted Gaya Prasad’s famous Paranthe. They have around 40 different varieties on their menu where you can try Aloo Ke Paranthe, Gobi Ke Paranthe & Mooli ke Paranthe etc. You must also try their Banana Parantha & Papad Parantha! The price of one can be anywhere between Rs 25-45.

4.PUNDIT KANHAIYA LAL DURGA PRASAD DIXIT PARATHE WALE

Location : Shop No. 36, Gali Parathe Wali, Chandni Chowk, New Delhi-06

Located in Paratha Wali Gali, this is one of the other shops that you can visit to try some great Paranthas. They have the usual Aloo Paranthe, Gobhi Paranthe, Tomato Paranthe & Papad Paranthe however, they also have some unique variations (you will not find them anywhere else) like the 16 Layer Paranthe, Banana & Nimbu Paranthe and Karela (Bitter Gourd) Paranthe. They all come reasonably priced at Rs 25-45.

5. KAKE DI HATTI

Location : 654-655, Church Mission Road, Fetehpuri, New Delhi

Nestled in the Old Delhi spice market in Khari Baoli, this café is renowned for its naan-like stuffed parathas. Using water as a base instead of oil and cream, the parathas are cooked in a tandoor oven rather than fried, displaying the chef’s North Indian influences. True to their healthier ingredients, the parathas at Kake di Hatti are lighter than those found on the rest of the continent, and prove to be a moreish snack.

Good quality usually comes at a hefty price, but Kake Di Hatti begs to differ with their astoundingly inexpensive & delicious dishes.

6. CHITTARANJAN PARK MARKET

Location : Chittaranjan Park Market

This place deserves some special kind of food award for rolling out the world’s yummiest Mughlai parathas, stuffed with shreds of chicken and layered with maida and egg, the dish spells out indulgence!

7. TRIVENI TERRACE CAFE

Location : Mandi House – 205, Tan Sen Marg, Opposite FICCI Auditorium, Mandi House, New Delhi

The theme of the restaurant is simple yet fancy. The ambiance alone would make you crave for some hot parathas, specially in Winters. The parathas are not only delicious and healthy but also easy on pocket.

8. RAJINDER DA DHABA

Location: AB 14, Safdarjung Enclave Market, New Delhi

Rajinder Sir knows best; check out the range of yummalicious parathas and side-dishes to go along with, they serve. From Chinese cuisines to north and south indian, the staff here knows it all- don’t be surprised if you are tempted to lick the plate.

9. MASALA LIBRARY

Location : 21A, Near Le Meridian, Janpath, New Delhi

This might be a little out of place on this list, but if you’re a true paratha fan, the Farmer’s Staple at Masala Library is a must-try. The chef has taken the pyaaz paratha as inspiration but gone ahead and caramelised the onions: The result is phenomenal. Served with a dollop of white butter, this dish is the perfect blend of the contemporary with the traditional.
